Project overview

This project focused on creating a family home that feels calm even on busy days. The brief prioritised clear circulation, practical storage, and materials that could handle everyday use without feeling heavy or utilitarian.

Instead of approaching the house room by room, the interior was designed as a connected system — where layout, lighting, and material choices support each other and allow the home to evolve naturally over time.

Key design decisions

Each decision was tested against daily use, maintenance effort, and how the space would feel years into the future.

Functional zoning

Shared living areas and private zones were clearly defined, allowing the family to move comfortably through the house without visual or physical clutter.

Durable materials

Finishes were selected for longevity and ease of care — materials that age well, tolerate wear, and remain pleasant to touch and use every day.

Layered lighting

Ambient, task, and accent lighting work together to support mornings, evenings, and everything in between — responding naturally to New Zealand’s changing daylight.

The result

The finished house feels grounded and lived-in from the start. Circulation is intuitive, storage is integrated, and the interior supports both shared family moments and quiet personal time.

Rather than locking the home into a fixed look, the design provides a flexible framework — allowing future changes without losing coherence or calm.
